IT’S COOL TO to get through security QUICKLY

keys-itscool

march09-2Z5G2551It’s Cool to get through security quickly as shown to our 002 jet-setting traveler by Gene Brault, ICMS Coordinator at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. We’ve all experienced that super slow clueless traveler and granted we know there will always be those who haven’t traveled since, well, everything changed back in 2001 – but we can at least ensure you, dear 002 reader, will know what to do.

First of all, visit www.tsa.gov. It’s got all the information on what you can and cannot carry on.

• In one bin, place all your clothing items. (No, don’t bare it all, please.) Remove shoes, belt, jacket, etc.

• In another separate bin (in other words, NOT the same one with your clothes) place your laptop –

• REMOVING it from its protective case, if there is one. You can place your quart-size zip lock bag with your liquids on top of the laptop.

bottles of water.

• Don’t bring on bottles of water.

• Silence is golden.

• You are allowed ONE zip lock bag with no more than 3.4 ounces of  liquids. This includes eye drops, lip gloss, hand creams, mascara, etc.

Walk through security towards the guard. Keep your airline-boarding pass and government-issued photo ID available until exiting the security checkpoint. And DON’T make any smart remarks! You’ll hold up the line if you say something stupid or threatening even if you are joking.
HAVE A NICE TRIP!!!

IT’S COOL TO MAKE YOUR SWEETHEART SOME HOMEMADE VALENTINES

How about this year you show your sweetheart how much you care and get a little crafty? 002’s heartbreakin’ fool learns how to make the bisou or kiss in French, one of several specialty cocktails created by Anvil’s Bobby Heugel for Hotel Icon. Don’t forget the power of an old-fashioned homemade valentine to leave your beloved swooning.

FOR COCKTAILS YOU’LL NEED

• 2 oz cognac

• 1 oz lemon juice

• ¾ oz simple syrup

• 4 oz Rosé Champagne

• Rose petal for garnish

In a shaker with ice, add the cognac, lemon juice and simple syrup. Shake to chill ingredients.

Strain into a Champagne flute.

Float the Rose Champagne on top and add the rose petal garnish.

its-cool-2FOR VALENTINE YOU’LL NEED

• Doilies

• Construction paper

in red and pink

• Scissors

• A glue stick

• Glitter (if you dare)

Fold your construction paper in half and cut a half heart. Fold the doily in half and do the same only smaller – with a Sharpie® or a pen write your love note. Grab your glue stick and smear it on the backside of the doily, avoiding the lacey part, and adhere to the larger cutout of the heart. You can add glitter if you’re daring.

And voila!

Deliver your sweet love a delectable concoction along with your personalized valentine.

Special thanks to Manuel De Moya,

food & beverage director of Hotel Icon.

David Brown (713.664.0466) offers these great host gifts, wrapped and ready to place.

DO place bread on your dinner plate if a b & b (bread and butter) plate is not provided at a meal.

DON’T put the bread directly on the table cloth….

bon appetit

It’s Cool to to have impeccble manners.

As told to 002’s highly solicited man by Club Etiquette founding director, Gigi Lewis, who has been teaching social and business etiquette since 1995. DINING
How many times have you taken your neighbor’s bread plate?
DO Try applying BMW – follow the letters from left to right
Bread, Meal, Water…It’s very embarrassing if you eat from the wrong bread and butter plate. I unfortunately know from experience.
What do you do if there is no bread and butter plate?

IN HOME GET–TOGETHER
It’s the season for events held in homes
DON’T forget a host/hostess gift.
DON’T bring fresh flowers wrapped in paper. This makes the host waste time finding a vase, trimming the flowers, adding water, etc.
DO bring flowers in a vase ready to place.

HOLDING A WINE GLASS PROPERLY
DO hold at the base of the stem.
DON’T get your fingers all over the glass and heat up the wine with your body heat!

SENDING THANK YOU’S DO send a thank you for a gift received. A quick e-mail is OK, but does not replace a handwritten note. It should be around 3 lines long, mention the gift item and how you will use it.

DON’T text or email your formal thank you!

& RSVP’ING to events

DO RSVP promptly for an event. There is a legitimate reason for this! I had an extra 100 people show up to my wedding reception and we ran out of food and drink!
DON’T bring people along with you to an event you were invited to. This is what happened at my wedding…..the laws of etiquette state, only bring who is addressed on the envelope, period. If it is an informal event, and you are unsure if you can bring your spouse, significant other or a friend, there is nothing wrong with asking the host(ess), just as long as you do it in a non-coercive way.
